A commission for Sabertooth Games' Warhammer 40,000 Collectible Card Game "Dark Millenium".

It portrays an advancing Blood Ravens [Space Marines] Landraider Tank in a desert battle scene.

The foreground desert with the metal piece is not going to be seen in the actual print, so I didn't give it much attention.

15-20 hours.
Photoshop CS.
No direct references.

Copyright 2005 Games Workshop.

Edit 1: Finished polishing the marine getting sand-blasted. Added some details on the side. Added red half-logo thing on the white side door. Added radar dish on top. Tweaked colours on marine on top. Lowered saturation on the sand in the foreground. Fixed the shadow cast by the tank. Added purity seal above the white door.

Edit 2: Fixed some logo perspective issues. Replaced the right shoulder logo on the sandblasted soldier. Fixed some colour issues + minor wear and tear on both soldiers. Minor cleanup on the grenade launchers. The sand/dust whipped up was 1 pixel from the left border, now it extends fully to the border.

Edit 3: Did some colour/saturation/hue/brightness correction. I've come to discover that my monitor was set too dark when painting this back in the day, and as a result this and many others were too bright on a correctly setup monitor. The tank colour should be a very dark deep red, and the shadowed areas of the tank should be just baarely readable. Added a neat border as well. wow dude great scene, love the tanks details and the way it was made, the perspective of this battle looks awesome

only thing I see that could use a change is the color of the bot in the tank :)

Thanks :D

The bot? The soldier you mean on top? In what way would you want to change it?

Guy on the left is screaming; "Oh, DAMN IT!! Thanks a lot now I got friggin' sand in my filters! *ptui!*"

Looks great :) though the foreground is just begging for something interesting sitting in front of the 'camera' as it were.

Not to worry, the middle foreground is going to be covered by card info that portrudes upwards, can't be seen thus.. I just put something random in there for the sake of it :P

Hehe filters.. one would hope 30th millenia tech isn't too bothered by sand ;)

Hmm . . . I always thought the Las Cannons were vertical, not horizontal.

And to think I killed a buch of these last night with a Squiggy.

Ninjas are common and frequently fight in public.

I think ghost means that the soldier is slightly magenta in comparison to the tank... Which I find to be perfect, because realistically the suit and the tank would use different types of paint, face different weathering and would be produced in different places by different groups, and so would very unlikely have perfectly matched colors. More likely, each production group would grab the red they had on hand and use it, regardless of shade.

Well done btw, but you already know that ^_-

Taste is the enemy of art.

I bet it still itches and tastes bad though! :D
