The Reich calls you!

A commission for an unnamed RPG (pen and paper) book. It depicts a recruitment poster in Switzerland, urging people to join the Alpine Special Forces, soldiers who are cyborg enhanced. Circa 2018. I also did the entire character/armor design. Client asked for something Jin Roh (Wolf Brigade, an anime) esque in appearance.

Was originally going to use poser 5 for references but ended up scrapping all that I had referenced as the progress continued, so basically no references to speak of. Time taken was over 20 hours in Photoshop CS. Many, many changes, improvements and evolutions until it came out like this.

EDIT: The German text was not quite appropriate for a poster. Now it says "ruft", which means "calls" or something more appropriate. Also added more definition and clothing irregularities around the bent joints, and moved the left shoulder back a bit along with the arm, it was looking forward hunched earlier. Oh and, I now uploaded the full work size, not a downsized version. I hope it isn't too large for your monitors. :)

EDIT 2: Doh, sorry for spamming the notifications of you watchers. I didn't catch some evil artifacts left by fixing the shoulder. :( I caught it and fixed it. Also added a little copyright thing below as I recieved my payment and transferred the piece to my client.

EDIT 3: ... noticed the backpack was not aligned, it was far too much to his left :( Fixed! Also, came up with and added an artistical signature in the lower right. Nicer than a watermark. :)

EDIT 4: Major colour correction. Noticing my old monitor was set up too dark, making the image washed out. In this very image, it looked more fullbright cartoony. Now it looks as intended - a bit more dark and gritty (though not hardcore such).

I think it's worthy of being a print :) You did a nice job on this, I especially like the shading on his legs. You captured the Jin Roh look well too.

.... meh

It looked very flat and unevil until the end where I went nuts with contrasts and such. Made a huge difference. Lost some detail but the impression of the viewer is so much more intimidating and dramatic :)

mmmm. paintery future goodness.

Armor looks a little restrictive, if it was a snowy environment I'd be taping up the rifle white. A spot of Krylon paint wouldn't go amiss.

We likes! :D

 agreed :) Though remember that the brief called for more hardcore looking (impractical indeed) Jin Roh looking armor, so I managed to ditch some of the restrictions and lean out others in my design. But yes, it's not all that practical in real life - what happens if snow gets in under the shoulder pads, etc? Can't articulate the arms properly.. haha. Ah, in design, you just have to give the client what they want, but try to push the envelope as far as you can get away with :P

This is definately worth making a print out of!! My gawd thats good. This really inspires me..

Haha, you'll probably get your hands on the PSD file, via Parnell, then you can see how it's all made. All 36 layers or so of it. I'm glad you like it! Personally, I think it took a huge turn up into coolness at the last moment (it was very matte and sort of boring looking before, last I showed you).
